A garage door off track is hard to miss. The door hangs at an odd angle, rollers pop out of the rail, panels twist, and the opener groans or stops. It is one of the more alarming garage door problems, and it is also one of the most important to leave alone until help arrives.
Braxdyne Garage Door Repair provides garage door off track repair in Sacramento and nearby cities. We safely put doors back on their tracks, straighten or replace bent track sections, and swap out worn rollers and hinges on residential doors from all major brands. We also look for the reason the door came off, so it stays where it belongs.
Every visit starts with a $0 service call and a free estimate. You see the price before any work begins. Each repair includes our free 21-point safety check, a 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty. We are open 7am to 9pm, 7 days a week.
Braxdyne is not yet licensed by the CSLB (our license is in process), so we only take minor repairs under $1,000 total for parts and labor that need no permit, and we refer bigger jobs such as new doors to a licensed partner.
Signs you need off track repair
- One or more rollers have popped out of the track.
- The door is tilted, twisted or hanging lower on one side.
- A track section is bent, dented or pulling away from the wall.
- The door scrapes, sticks or stops at the same spot every time.
- There is a gap between the rollers and the track on one side.
- Hinges between panels are cracked, bent or loose.
- The door was hit by a car, bike or trash bin and has not moved right since.
What we do on an off track repair visit
- Stabilize the door. We secure the door so it cannot shift or fall while we work.
- Check springs and cables. An off track door often has a slack or broken cable, or a broken spring. We inspect these first.
- Give you a clear price. You get a written price before any work starts.
- Repair the track. We straighten bent sections where possible or replace them, and tighten or replace loose brackets.
- Reset the door. We guide the rollers back into the track and replace damaged rollers and hinges with your approval.
- Align and balance. We adjust track spacing, check the door balance, and set opener limits and force if needed.
- Run the 21-point safety check and test the door through several full cycles.
What to do right now, and what not to do
If your garage door just came off track, a few simple steps make a big difference:
- Stop using the door. Do not press the opener button again.
- Unplug the opener if you can reach the plug safely without standing under the door, so no one triggers it by accident.
- Keep everyone clear. Move kids, pets and vehicles away from the door if it is safe to do so.
- Take photos of both sides of the door and the tracks. They help us prepare and give you a better idea of what is involved.
- Call us and describe what happened, such as a loud bang, a bump from a car or the door simply drifting off.
Just as important, do not try to force the door up or down, hammer the track back into place, or pry rollers back in with a screwdriver. An off track door is often under uneven tension and can drop without warning.
Why garage doors come off track
- Impact. A bump from a car, bike or bin can bend the track or knock rollers out.
- Broken cable or spring. When one side loses support, the door tilts and rollers can jump the track.
- Worn rollers. Cracked or seized rollers do not ride smoothly and can pop out.
- Loose track brackets. Vibration over time loosens the bolts that hold the track to the wall.
- Misaligned tracks. If the tracks are too far apart or out of plumb, the rollers lose their grip.
- Obstructions. Debris or stored items in the track path can push rollers out.
Rollers and hinges: small parts, big difference
Rollers and hinges carry the door through every opening and closing. Old steel rollers wear out, rust and get noisy. Upgrading to quality nylon rollers with sealed bearings can make the door quieter and smoother. Cracked hinges let panels flex and pull rollers out of line. During your visit, we check every roller and hinge and tell you which ones need attention now and which can wait.
Safety first
An off track door can be twisted, unbalanced and under tension from the springs and cables. We never publish do-it-yourself steps for springs or cables, and we strongly recommend leaving off track repairs to a trained technician. Here is what not to do:
- Do not run the opener or try to lift or lower the door by hand.
- Do not loosen track bolts, brackets or bottom brackets.
- Do not touch springs, cables or cable drums.
- Do not stand under the door or reach between panels.
- Do not try to drive a car in or out under a tilted door.

FAQ
Can I put my garage door back on track myself?
We do not recommend it. Off track doors are often unbalanced and connected to springs and cables under tension. The door can fall or shift suddenly. Leave it in place and call a professional.
Can a bent track be fixed, or does it need replacing?
Minor bends can often be straightened. Sections with sharp kinks, cracks or heavy damage are usually replaced. We will show you the damage and explain both options.
Why did my door come off track after my car bumped it?
Even a light bump can bend the bottom of a track or knock rollers loose. Once the alignment is off, the next cycle can pull the door out of the track.
Will new rollers make my door quieter?
Often, yes. Quality nylon rollers with sealed bearings usually run quieter and smoother than worn steel rollers.
Is my door ruined if it came off track?
Not always. Many off track doors are repaired with track work, new rollers and hinges. If panels are badly damaged and the door needs replacing, we will refer you to a licensed partner.
