When your garage door opener stops working, your whole routine stops with it. Maybe the motor hums but nothing moves. Maybe the light blinks, the door reverses for no reason, or the remote suddenly does nothing at all. Most of these problems can be fixed without replacing the whole unit.

Braxdyne Garage Door Repair provides garage door opener repair in Sacramento and nearby cities for all major brands, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman and Linear. We troubleshoot chain, belt and screw drive openers, as well as wall-mount units, and we tell you plainly whether a repair makes sense.

Every visit starts with a $0 service call and a free estimate. You see the price before any work begins. Each job includes our free 21-point safety check, a 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty. We are open 7am to 9pm, 7 days a week.

Braxdyne is not yet licensed by the CSLB (our license is in process), so we only take minor repairs under $1,000 total for parts and labor that need no permit, and we refer bigger jobs to a licensed partner.

Signs you need garage door opener repair

  • The motor hums or clicks, but the door does not move.
  • The door starts to close, then reverses back up.
  • The opener light blinks in a pattern, or the wall button flashes.
  • Remotes or the keypad work only up close, or not at all.
  • The myQ or Wi-Fi app shows the opener offline.
  • You hear grinding, rattling or a loud chain slap during travel.
  • The opener stops partway, or only works when you hold the wall button down.
  • The battery backup beeps, or the opener will not run during a power outage.

What we do on an opener repair visit

  1. Check the door first. Many opener complaints are really door problems, such as a broken spring or binding track. We confirm the door itself is balanced and moving freely.
  2. Read the diagnostics. Many LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie units flash error codes. We read them and test the circuit, sensors and wiring.
  3. Find the root cause. We inspect gears, sprockets, the drive chain or belt, travel limits, force settings and the logic board.
  4. Give you a clear price. You get the price, and a recommendation, before any work starts.
  5. Repair or adjust. We replace the failed part, reprogram remotes and keypads, and reconnect smart features if needed.
  6. Test safety reverse. We verify the photo-eyes and the auto-reverse function work as designed.
  7. Run the 21-point safety check and walk you through what we found.

Common opener problems we fix

Stripped gears. On many chain and belt drive openers, a plastic drive gear wears down over time. When it strips, the motor runs but the door does not move. This is a common, repairable issue on older LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman units.

Logic boards. A power surge or age can damage the circuit board that controls the opener. Symptoms include no response, erratic behavior or lights that will not turn off. In many cases we can replace the board rather than the whole opener.

Safety sensors. The photo-eyes near the floor must see each other. If they are dirty, misaligned or have a damaged wire, the door will refuse to close or will reverse. We clean, realign or replace them.

Remotes and keypads. Dead batteries, lost pairing or a failed receiver can all make remotes stop working. We program new remotes and keypads, clear old codes for security, and test range.

Travel and force settings. If the door stops short or reverses on its own, the limits or force may be out of adjustment. We set them correctly so the door closes fully and still reverses on contact.

Smart openers and myQ

Many newer openers connect to your phone through myQ or another Wi-Fi app. When the app shows the opener offline, the cause is often a weak signal in the garage, a changed router password or a pairing issue. We check the opener side of the connection, help reconnect it, and can explain options such as a compatible smart hub for older openers. Your home network itself stays in your hands, but we will point you in the right direction.

Battery backup and California SB 969

California law SB 969 requires residential garage door openers sold or installed in the state since July 1, 2019 to include a battery backup, so the door still works during a power outage. That matters during wildfire season and public safety power shutoffs.

Backup batteries wear out over time. If your opener beeps, or will not run when the power is out, the battery may need replacing. We can test and replace backup batteries and confirm the system switches over correctly.

Repair or replace?

We always start with repair. If your opener is very old, missing modern safety features or needs several major parts, replacement may be the better value. We only take on an opener replacement if the whole job stays under $1,000 total for parts and labor and does not need a permit. If it does not fit those limits, we will tell you up front and refer you to a licensed partner.

Safety first

An opener works together with springs and cables that hold serious tension. We never publish do-it-yourself steps for springs or cables. Here is what not to do while you wait for help:

  • Do not bypass, tape over or disconnect the safety sensors to force the door to close.
  • Do not keep pressing the button if the motor strains. A broken spring may be the real problem.
  • Do not pull the emergency release while the door is open unless you can safely hold it. With a broken spring, the door can fall fast.
  • Do not open the opener housing while it is plugged in.
  • Do not adjust springs, cables or brackets to make the opener work.
  • Keep children away from wall buttons and remotes.

FAQ

Why does my garage door start to close and then go back up?

The most common cause is the safety sensors near the floor. They may be dirty, bumped out of line or blocked. Force or travel settings can also be the cause. We test both and fix the real problem.

Which opener brands do you repair?

We work on all major brands, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman and Linear.

Can you program new remotes and keypads?

Yes. We program new remotes and keypads, clear old codes you no longer trust, and test them before we leave.

Do I need a battery backup on my opener?

Under California SB 969, openers sold or installed in the state since mid-2019 must have one. If yours has a backup that no longer holds a charge, we can test and replace the battery.

Will you replace my opener?

Only if the whole job stays under $1,000 total and needs no permit. Otherwise we will tell you right away and refer you to a licensed partner.
